Bentley has launched the new Bentayga Hybrid which marks the company’s first step towards electrification.
Powering the luxury SUV is an 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine and an electric motor which acts as both a generator and an active power unit for the SUV.
The electric battery can be recharged in between 2.5 and 7.5 hours and has an all-electric range of 31 miles.
The hybrid version of the luxurious SUV will be the company’s most efficient model ever, with CO2 emissions of just 75 g/km (NEDC).
Adrian Hallmark, new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bentley Motors, said: “The Bentayga Hybrid is our first step on the road to electrification, combining traditional Bentley values with the very latest technologies.
“It gives customers the best of both worlds – engaging, effortless performance on the open road and silent, emission-free driving in the city, which will become increasingly important with the ever-changing regulations around the world.
“Following Bentley tradition, the Bentayga Hybrid pioneers a new automotive sector – the luxury hybrid – and sets Bentley on the path towards a sustainable electrified future.”
With the introduction of the new powertrain there is also a choice of new driving modes.
Firstly, the car comes with the same permanent four-wheel drive system and four on-road driving models – Sport, Bentley, Comfort and Custom – as the W12, V8 diesel and V8 derivatives.
In addition to these are three EV modes – replacing the Automatic Start-Stop switch – which are EV Drive, Hybrid Mode and Hold Mode.
